Abstract: The effects of the particle size of the glaze powder and the thickness of the glaze layer has been studied on a dolomite body. A fritted clear glaze of five different average particle sizes was applied to the biscuit-fired body and gloss fired at 1,000°C for 60 minutes in an electric furnace. It was shown that when the average particle size of the glaze powder was approximately 1 micron or below, the glaze layer tended to craw and finally became turbid due to the presence of a large number of bubbles in the glaze layer. The effect of glaze thickness on crawling was studied by immersing the ceramic body into the glaze suspension at three different periods of time. It was clearly evident that the glaze crawling became more severe with increasing the glaze thickness.
