Abstract
274In present study, TiB2-Al2O3 nanocrystalline powder was produced by microwave synthesis. H3BO3, TiO2 and Al as starting materials were milled for 1, 3, 6 and 9 h then pressed to from pallets. Green compacts were placed in a microwave oven with argon atmosphere, for synthesis. The final products were studied by XRD, SEM and TEM analytical techniques. The XRD patterns of samples after microwaves synthesis showed that the TiB2-Al2O3 nanocrystalline has been successfully fabricated in microwave chamber and also, it was found that, 6 h is the optimum time for mechanical activation. On the other hand, the results indicate that increasing milling time up to 9 h had no significant effect other than refining the crystallite sizes of the components specially TiB2. The nanocrystallinity of TiB2-Al2O3 powder was confirmed by TEM image.
