Abstract:
The study aimed at determining N dynamics in Chao Phraya river basin and its tributaries during April 1999 - March 2002. Wet deposition and streamwater chemistry of N was quantitatively estimated in which covering three annual cycles. It was found that annual rainfall in the river basin ranged between 748 to1,728 mm. Streamwater discharges fed from the main tributaries of the basin were accounted for 27, 13, 11, 27, 16 and 17% of rainfall input onto the Ping. Wang, Yom, Nan, Pasak, and Sakae Krang sub-river basins respectively. Wet deposition of NO3-N and NH4-N onto the upper part of the basin were estimated to be 4.54 and 5.26 kg ha-1 yr-1 (15,720 and 18,193 t yr-1) and to the lower basin were found to be 8.64 and 8.05 kg ha-1 yr-1 (24,456 and 22, 765 t yr-1) respectively. The higher loading of N onto the lower basin than the upper part due to Human activities such as industrial and mobile exhausts consequently for incoming of air pollution. Loading of inorganic-N (NO3-N + NO2-N + NH4-N) and organic-N in streamwater were estimated of 26,247 and 35,037 t yr-1 losing from the Chao Phraya basin into the Gulf of Thailand.
