Abstract: The improvement of effluents from pig manure biogas digester by Spirulina platensis was determined in 1999. This experimental study concerned of S.platensis removing nutrients (N, P) from the effluent dilution as the reduction of water pollutants. In addition, S. platensis biomass, produced during the experiment, was also observed as algal primary production since it can later be used as dietary supplement in aquatic farming as additional protein source. All experimental ponds were continuously aerated where water and algal samples were collected every 3 days over a culture period of 30 days. As the results, after the completion of the experiment, removal percentage of NH3-N in all treatment of different effluent dilutions were over 98.99%, where they had met the laws and standards of pollution control in Thailand. COD removal percentage was also clearly high in 30% effluent dilutions (97.13%), where final concentrations had also met the standards. However, instead of being removed, COD content in 50% effluent had increased. The highest primery production as the dry-weight biomass of S.platensis was achieved in 50% effluent (0.32 g/l), while chlorophyll-a content were between 38.6 and 69.2 µg/l.
