Abstract:
In our pervious work, the low temperature synthesis of single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) by hot carbon-filament enhanced CVD has been reported. [S. Chaisitsak et al., Dia. Related Mat., 2004; 13: 438-444.] In this work, we report the uniformity of CNT formation over a 10 x 10 mm substrate. A straight Carbon-filament (0.5 mm x 30 mm) was used. The morphology and Raman spectra showed that at high substrate temperature (Tsub), i.e. low distance between substrate and filament (dsf), the obtained CNTs were inhomogeneous. The CNTs underneath the filament showed less intensity ratio of G-band to D-band and were surrounded with high amount of a-C/graphite particles. Based on the results, the inhomogeneity of CNT formation was mainly due to the Tsub variation along the dl and the reaction time. Under the optimized conditions, the uniformity of obtained CNTs could be obtained. This result may help us to design the arranging of filament for the HF-CVD growth of CNTs films over a large area.
