Abstract

Adsorbable organic halogens parameter (AOX) is used to evaluate water and wastewater quality. It gives an idea about the presence of organic halides, which are of environmental concern. After the sum parameter AOX was developed, it was considered as a quality parameter for surface and groundwaters, but later it was applied as wastewater parameter also. AOX is not among the required water or wastewater quality parameters in Turkey. In this study, the importance of AOX parameter is discussed; AOX values in drinking waters in different parts of Izmir and Turkey are evaluated.

Keywords: AOX, water quality
