Abstract

Self-diffusion coefficient ‘D’ of liquid metals has been evaluated under pseudopotential formalism and liquid state dynamics. A suitable expression of D (D=KvsβLTm/rs) of Swalin is used, during studies of melting behaviours of metals. We have reassessed various concepts of Ziman, Ascarelli – Harrisson – Paskin, Enderby – March – Tosi and Lindemann criteria. A new concept of isothermal compressibility βL [βL-1 =( βLpl)-1 + (βLst )-1 ] of liquid metals is derived in terms of plasma ( βLPl ) and band structural (βLst) contributions of compressibilities. Our methodology presents good results of self-diffusion coefficeient D of liquid alkali metals.
