Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the ruminal and intestinal digestibilities of cassava , leucaena, kenaf foliages and soybean meal using nylon bag and mobile bag techniques. Three cattle with an average body weight of 314 + 14 kg were fitted with a permanent rumen and a T-shape duodenum cannulae. Ruminal DM and CP degradabilities increased with the rumen incubation times for all feedstuffs. Dry matter degradation rates of kenaf foliage and soybean meal were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of cassava foliage and leucaena foliage, especially at 24 h of incubation time. The loss of DM, resulting from washing the kenaf foliage and the soybean meal was higher than that of cassava foliage and leucaena foliage. The degradability of the water insoluble fraction of cassava foliage and soybean meal was higher than that of kenaf foliage and leucaena foliage. The loss of CP resulting from cassava foliage and leucaena foliage was higher than those of kenaf foliage and soybean meal. The degradability of water insoluble fraction of cassava foliage, kenaf foliage and soybean meal was also higher than leucaena foliage. The potential degradation and the effective degradability of DM and CP for soybean meal, cassava foliage and kenaf foliage were higher than leucaena foliage. Intestinal DM and CP degradabilities at 12 and 24 h of soybean meal were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of cassava foliage, leucaena foliage and kenaf foliage. Similarly, those of cassava foliage and leucaena foliage were also significantly higher (p<0.05) than kenaf foliage.
