Abstract:
Glycyrrhizic acid or 20b -Carboxy-11-oxo-30-nor-olean-12-en-3b -yl-2-O-b -D-glucopyra-nuronosyl-a -D-gluco-pyranosiduronic acid, a sweet-tasting glycoside, is obtainable from Glycyrrhiza radix (licorice) or Chinese “Cha aim”. In this experiment, glycyrrhizic acid was isolated from Chinese “Cha aim” in three main steps, namely hot water extraction, decolorization by electrolysis, and simultaneous decolorization and demineralization by ion exchange. Glycyrrhizic acid was obtained in 2.1% yield.
